Most people are clueless about the uses of fingernails. To many people, it is on the skin for beautification or just to scratch itchy areas. Did you know that fingernails can reveal clues about one’s health? Well, they do. Studies have shown that nail health is closely associated with how well one’s body is functioning in other areas.
Learn what a change in nail color says about your overall health.
1. Pale nails
Very pale nails sometimes can be a sign of illness, such as ; anemia, congestive heart failure, liver disease and malnutrition.

2. White nails
If the nails are mostly white with darker rims, this can indicate liver problems such as hepatitis.

3. Yellow nails
Yellow nails can indicate conditions such as severe thyroid disease, lung disease, diabetes or psoriasis.

4. Bluish nails
Nails with bluish tint mean the body is not getting enough oxygen. This could indicate a lung problem such as emphysema.

5. Rippled nails
If the nail surface is rippled or pitted, this may be an early sign of psoriasis or inflammatory arthritis.

6. Cracked or split nails
Dry, brittle nails that frequently crack or split is linked to thyroid disease.

7. Puffy nail fold
If the skin around the nail appears red and puffy, this is known as inflammation of the nail fold. It may be the result of lupus.

8. Dark lines beneath the nail
This is caused by melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer.

Even though the colors and skin around the fingernails provide clues about one’s health, it is still very important to seek medical advice and attention, rather than provide self-diagnosis with the use of fingernails.
