We are taught to say “thank you” to others at an early age, but how often do we thank ourselves?
Saying thank you every now and then to your own body is one of the most valuable things anyone can do. This is particularly important when pursuing a life of self-love and wellness. This is not a natural habit, because society teaches us to conform to a socially accepted standard.
I have decided to take the mantle of changing views of society about self-love. Society needs to realize that self-love and body acceptance is crucial to one’s wellbeing.
You can learn to appreciate your body with simple rituals such as the below;
1. Meditation
One of the most effective ways of showing self-love is meditation. Besides being able to do it anywhere, it is a simple process that only requires finding a quiet, comfortable place, closing your eyes, and breathing.
When you decide to dedicate yourself to the easing of your mind daily, you will enjoy the benefits of meditation.
2. Gratitude
You should always be thankful for who you are and what you look like. Society has a habit of deciding a look or body type that should be accepted, and others that should be condemned. Having a routine dedicated to gratitude is very effective in boosting self-love.
3. Mirror work
Whenever you look in the mirror, say complimentary words. Be proud of your appearance. Remember, that you are unique and no other human being will ever be like you. Whenever you look in the mirror and feel negative, say loving words to yourself like ”l am beautiful, I love me, I am special.”
4. Surround yourself with joy
Where do you expend most of your time? Is it at work? Is it your car? When you peek around your surroundings, do you feel a burst of joy? If not, the next step is to create an atmosphere you love.
It’s a feat of self-love when you find yourself in an atmosphere full of the things that bring you joy. When you can smile by just looking around, you’re practicing self-love!
5. Ask for help
Self-love is asking for help. When you are going through a hard time, you will be astounded that most people do want to be there for you. It may be tough to be vulnerable and ask for help, but one of the valid ways to get through a tough time is getting the support you need.
It’s okay to not be okay. The point is, you do not have to go through it alone. Asking for the support you need is a gift that you simply get to offer yourself.
